Hi it's me! The super cool trainer from Caity Jane Fitness 😄
I thought I would tell you all a bit about myself and how Caity Jane Fitness came about!
In the summer of 2012 I was living in our holiday home near the beach (Kingston in South Australia if anyone has heard of it!) I decided I wanted to lose some weight but I had no idea how because I had never been an active person. I didn't like PE in school and I never did any physical activity specifically for fitness. So I started running since that was all I really knew how to do. I ran 1km up the road and I had to walk back. The next morning I did the same thing. After a few mornings I started running there and back. I kept increasing the distance until I was running 6km every morning!
A few months down the track I moved to Adelaide and joined the Leisure Center, my very first gym membership! I started going to Les Mills classes. I went to a class nearly every day for a year!
At the start of 2013 I started at uni studying Primary School Education with Disability Studies. While I loved what I was studying I am just not a Uni person, and I started getting more interested in personal training.
So a semester into my course I dropped out 😂 and started at the Australian Institute of Fitness! My course was full time for 3 months and at the end of it I landed a job at Goodlife in the city.
During my time there I got a pretty gnarly wake up call that being a personal trainer wasn't easy! So much of this job is about having confidence and experience, but as a brand new trainer fresh out of PT school I had none of either.
Six months into it my family and I moved to WA in September 2014. For the first 12 months here I didn't do anything with my PT qualifications. I think I'd had such a rough first experience that I just didn't believe I could do it. But after doing a couple of other jobs that I hated I decided to give it another go.
My first gym job in Mandurah was at the Basement (connected to Peel Thunder). I got a job there and a job at Lorna Jane on the same day! So life was lookin lush. I loved working at The Basement. I took 30 minute booty classes and senior classes. After a while though I wanted to go to a bigger gym with more opportunity for one on ones.
Then came Non Stop Fitness! Now Golds Gym. This was where my career took a great turn! While it was still quite tricky building up a client base, I learnt a lot about being a personal trainer and gained a lot of experience. I had clients that I trained in the gym and I also did outdoor classes for those who didn't have a gym membership.
At one stage I had clients I trained at Seascapes all the way down to South Yunderup. The packing and unpacking of equipment, travelling from one end to another and then back to the gym was starting to get a bit much. This was when I decided to turn my outdoor bedroom into a gym!
I had saved up enough money to get myself started at home. I got a squat rack, dumbbells, slam balls etc etc and even had snazzy turf and rubber mats. Soon enough I had left Non Stop and was working solely from home.
For over a year I was just doing one on one training. I remember talking to my partners Dad at this stage saying how I'd love to one day run group classes and my girls could just pay a weekly membership and come to as many classes as they liked and it would all be booked online! At that point it seemed like a far fetched idea that I'd probably never actually achieve, I was just dreaming!
At the end of 2016 I decided I wanted to run a 6 week challenge! That's when I started the Caity Jane Beach Body Program. This was 3 sessions a week, Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday mornings (I think!). I did this as well as the one on ones I was already doing. In the first round of the Beach Body Program I had four girls!
The Beach Body Program kept growing and evolving! Soon we were doing 10 sessions a week and the girls picked three time slots they wanted to do and those were their times for the duration of the 6 week program.
Eventually that turned into being able to do any 3 sessions, and we used our blackboard as a big timetable and all the girls had their names on velcro and would move their own names around onto the times they wanted to do.
Fast forward again: the program was still going for 6 weeks but the girls could now come to 5 sessions a week! At this point we had 30 or so girls and running 25 classes every week! Scheduling classes was getting hard. And nearly all the girls were rejoining every six weeks. So it was time to evolve again!
At the end of 2017 I said goodbye to the last of my one on one clients. I opened up extra time slots for the Beach Body Program and was now running 30 classes every week!
That pretty much brings us to now. We have recently changed our name from the Beach Body Program to simply Caity Jane Fitness: Healthy Happy Hearts. Instead of being a six week program we are now just an on-going all-girl group fitness facility. And one of our most handy new features is our app Caity Jane Fitness where all my girls can book their classes online anywhere, anytime!
Sounds familiar?! My goal career, my dream job! The conversation I'd had with my partners dad probably two years ago, without even realising, had completely and utterly come true! I love the way the universe works 💕
I'm not at all lying or stretching the truth when I say I am SO in love with my work. I am so grateful that I am able to do what I do and be surrounded by the most beautiful people every single day! It's been a bit of a long and bumpy road getting here but I'm thankful for every step its taken.
I would never have believed a few years ago that I would even be capable of running this kind of business! From the unsure and inexperienced 20 year old that worked at Goodlife to the confident, happy, and successful (nearly) 25 year old that I am now running my own group training from my back yard!
And we are just getting started!
What a story huh! If you managed to get all the way through it, thank you for reading! And I hope you feel like you know me a little better now 💕
